Abstract

The objective of this study is to discover the obstacles found in utilizing Cake Application for students’ English speaking activities. The researcher used a qualitative approach. Hence, the purposive sampling technique is conducted. The participants in this study were 13 participants in a Senior High School Palembang. The researcher gathered the data from questionnaire and interview. After collecting the data, IPA (Interpretive Phenomenological Analysis) from Smith and Shinebourne was used for data analysis. In this technique, the researcher interprets the findings from students’ personal thoughts and opinions. The results implied that, majority of students were already familiar with this app that could enhance their speaking skill(s) and achievement advantageously. This app has the best visual design appearance, AI voice recognition, and offers videos to learn. However, it is not completely free of charge and requires a stable internet connection. The obstacles found in this study are Cake Application needs more adequate devices, understanding from the videos given and vocabulary usage are more complicated to learn.
