Abstract
Background: The kidneys function to filter and eliminate metabolic waste products from the body. A decline in kidney function can disrupt the body's internal balance, leading to the accumulation of metabolic waste, particularly urea, which causes uremia, fluid imbalance, and the buildup of fluids and electrolytes in the body. Objective: To determine the adherence to fluid intake restrictions among patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis. Methods: This study used descriptive-analytic techniques and a non- experimental, survey-based quantitative research design. A quota sampling technique was used to pick 35 respondents in total. Questionnaires were utilized to gather data, and univariate analysis was performed to analyze the results. Results: The majority of patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis were not compliant with fluid intake restrictions, with 18 out of 35 respondents failing to adhere to the guidelines. Conclusion: With an average age of 52.17 years, the majority of respondents were middle-aged people. Fifteen persons, or 42.9%, had completed high school, while the majority of responders (18 individuals, or 51.4%) were female. Furthermore, 14 responders (or 40%) had been receiving hemodialysis for a sizable amount of time. In total, 18 responders (51.4%) disregarded the recommendations regarding fluid intake. Recommendations: Based on the study findings, it is recommended that patients undergoing hemodialysis adhere more closely to the fluid restrictions provided by healthcare professionals.
