Abstract

Vocabulary is the most important aspect of language. To improve students' English vocabulary, Memrise is designed to assist language learning, especially vocabulary. This research used an experimental quantitative research design and an experimental one-group approach to determine whether there was a significant effect of using the Memrise application for English vocabulary and to know students' responses to Memrise as a tool that could improve their English vocabulary. The participants in this research were 19 students from 4-5 classes in one of the schools in Palembang. This research used a purposive sample to select the participants. Tests and questionnaires were used as the instruments of this research. The results of students’ tests were analyzed with the SPSS program. The results show there was an effect on students' English vocabulary by using Memrise. In addition, this study also explored students' perceptions of the Memrise. The students tend to feel happy and enjoy the learning process by using Memrise. This concludes that the hypothesis of this study can be accepted.
