Abstract
Background: The number of patients undergoing surgery has increased significantly from year to year. Surgery can have a psychological impact in the preoperative phase. One of the impacts is a feeling of anxiety with signs that appear such as increased and irregular pulse, increased and irregular blood pressure, increased blood sugar. Anxiety in people who are about to undergo surgery can cause the operation to fail or be delayed. Objective: The effectiveness of providing education on anxiety in preoperative patients before and after education is known. The effectiveness of education on patient anxiety levels before surgery. Methods: This type of quantitative research with research used is Qulasy expelrimelnt preltelst-post telst without control. The population in this study was surgery patients in 2022 at Theresia Hospital with a total of 2,024 respondents, a sample of 54 respondents. Data analysis in this study used univariate and bivariate using the Wilcoxon test Results: Research results on 54 respondents, the age range of respondents ranged from 23-81 years, female gender was 32 (58.2%), male gender was 22 (40.0%) respondents, the highest level of education was high school education, anxiety before given preoperative education, 30 respondents (55.6%) had severe anxiety, 36 respondents (65.7%) felt anxiety after being given preoperative education. The difference in pre-operative patients before and after providing education with a p-value = 0.001 (p 0.05). Conclusion: There is a difference in anxiety before education and after being given pre-operative education on the anxiety level of patients at St. Theresia Hospital, Jambi in 2024. Suggestion: It is hoped that all health workers, especially nurses at St. Theresia Jambi Province in 2023 to provide pre-surgical education to patients before surgery.
