Abstract
Background : A primiparous mother is a first-time mother who has given birth to a living child. The phenomenon of primiparous mothers after childbirth refers to the experiences and challenges faced, such as adjustment to a new role as a mother, stress, fatigue, changes in interpersonal relationships and obstacles in breastfeeding. For primiparous mothers, breastfeeding is a first experience that is often a problem or difficulty. Problems with breastfeeding are experienced by primiparous mothers, such as nipple blisters, nipples that do not protrude or are flat, swollen breasts, lack of milk production, lack of knowledge of how to breastfeed properly. This causes mothers to have difficulty breastfeeding their babies.. Objective : This study aims to explore the experiences of primiparous mothers in breastfeeding. Methods : This study used a qualitative research design with a phenomenological approach. There were 5 participants who were taken based on participant criteria using Purposive Sampling and Snowball Sampling. Data analysis was conducted using Colaizzi analysis. Results : This study resulted in 8 themes, namely the process of obtaining information related to breastfeeding, the expression of feelings for the first time breastfeeding mothers, the obstacles of primiparous mothers in breastfeeding, the impact of breastfeeding for primiparous mothers, the mother's taboos in breastfeeding the baby, efforts to overcome obstacles in breastfeeding, the type of support obtained for breastfeeding mothers, and the lack of support from health services in the breastfeeding process. Suggestion : Health workers can serve as counsellors for primiparous mothers who lack knowledge and experience.
