Abstract

ANALYSIS OF THE RELATIONSHIP OF READING SPEED AND COMPREHENSION OF READING CONTENT IN CLASS IV STUDENTS OF SD XAVERIUS 5 PALEMBANG Speed reading is reading that is done at high speed but does not neglect understanding the content of the reading. This research aims to determine the reading speed ability and understanding of reading content of class IV students at SD Xaverius 5 Palembang. This research uses quantitative research methods. The subjects in this research were class IV, totaling 22 students consisting of 11 men and 11 women. The technique used in this research is to carry out a reading speed test which is calculated using a stopwatch and a reading content comprehension test which uses a questionnaire or student worksheet. The results of this research are that students' reading ability is in the medium category at 57%, namely around 150-160 kmp. Meanwhile, the results of students' ability to understand reading content were in the medium category at 33%. Based on the results of the data obtained, it is then analyzed and proves that the faster students read, it does not necessarily mean that students will be able to understand the content of their reading. So it was concluded that there was no relationship between reading speed and understanding of reading content
