Abstract

Background: Many problems experienced by LBW babies occur due to immaturity of the baby's organ systems, one of which is difficulty gaining weight. This can be overcome by reducing the baby's calorie consumption, increasing the baby's sleep time, improving the relationship and closeness between the mother and baby, minimizing the baby's movements. This can be done with therapeutic methods in the form of classical music, massage therapy, kangaroo mother care and nesting.. Objective: The difference in the effectiveness of kangaroo mother care and nesting on the weight of LBW babies in the Perinatology Room at Siti Fatimah Az Zahra Regional Hospital, South Sumatra Province is known. Methods: This research used a quasi-experimental two group pre-post test design. The sample in the study consisted of 34 respondents divided into 17 KMC samples and 17 Nesting samples. The statistical test used is the Dependent t test for paired variables and the Independent t test for unpaired variables. This research was carried out in the Perinatology room at Siti Fatimah Az Zahra Regional Hospital from September to November 2023. Results: There is a significant difference in baby weight before and after KMC with a p value of 0.001 (< 0.05), there is a significant difference in baby weight before and after nesting with a p value of 0.001 (< 0.05), there is a significant difference in body weight babies after being given KMC and nesting with a p value of 0.001 (<0.05). Suggestion: It is recommended for families to apply the KMC or nesting method in the hospital according to the advice of health workers or at home to help improve the condition of LBW, as well as improve the condition of babies being treated in the perinatology room.
