Abstract
Background: LBW is one of the causes of neonatal death. LBW requires special equipment, namely an incubator, to maintain body warmth. KMC care is special care similar to the way an incubator works for a mother to her baby. Nurses can provide care by providing health education about KMC using good media to mothers in order to increase knowledge about KMC care and achieve effectiveness in health education about KMC. Purpose: This study aims to determine the difference in knowledge before and after being given health education about KMC to mothers who have LBW babies Methods: This type of research is quantitative with the Pre Experimental designs method using the One Group Pretest Posttest approach. This research was carried out from 18 November 2023 to 30 December 2023 at Palembang Regional Hospital. A sample of 30 respondents used a total sampling technique. Data analysis used the Wilcoxon test. Results: The results of this study show that before being given health education, 14 respondents (46.7%) had sufficient knowledge, 9 people (30%) had poor knowledge and 7 people (23.3%) had good knowledge. After being given health education, all 30 respondents (100%) had good knowledge. Based on the Wilcoxon test, it was concluded that there was a difference in knowledge before and after being given health education about KMC to mothers who had LBW babies with p-value = 0.000 (p<0.05) Suggestion: This research can be developed by directly measuring knowledge and implementation of KMC care for LBW babies.
