Abstract
This research aims to describe the implementation of character learning through poetry in grade IV students of SD Baptis Palembang. This research was conducted by analyzing the internal structure of the poem including the theme and message of the poem, to find character values contained in the poem text. These character values are then recommended as teaching materials through thematic lesson plans for grade IV. This research used qualitative research methods. Data collection techniques in this study used documents in the form of grade IV student books. Data analysis techniques in this research used data analysis techniques according to Miles and Huberman, which are data collection, data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. In this research, there were 11 poetry texts that are analyzed for their themes and mandates. The results of this research managed to find 12 character values. The character values are (1) hard work, (2) curiosity, (3) tolerance, (4) social care, (5) friendship, (6) religion, (7) love for the country, (8) honesty, (9) patriotism, (10) environmental care, (11) responsibility, and (12) love of peace. The Basic Competencies used are KD 3.6 on Indonesian content, KD 2.4 on PPKn content, and KD 4.1 on social studies content, by integrating the character values of tolerance, environmental care, and love for the country.
