Abstract
Background :A craniotomy is a surgical intervention conducted to create an opening in the cranium, allowing for the exposure of the cerebral tissue. This surgical procedure is primarily employed in cases characterized by an augmented volume of tissue resulting from space-occupying lesions, cerebral pathologies, or cerebral edema. One of the complications arising from the aforementioned causes and surgical procedures is the augmentation of intracranial pressure resulting from its escalation. Failure to promptly address and manage this condition in an appropriate manner can engender unfavorable prognostic outcomes for the patient, and in severe cases, even culminate in fatality. One evidence-based management approach that can be employed to mitigate the elevation of intracranial pressure is the utilization of a 30-degree head-up position. Purpose :To alleviate intracranial pressure in patients experiencing cerebral issues, cerebral edema, and space-occupying lesions causing elevated intracranial pressure, this serves as a reference and consideration for the intensive care unit (ICU) setting and the hospital is related to the standard operating procedure (SOP) for the initial management of providing a 30-degree head-up position in patients with increased intracranial pressure. Method : The method utilized a case study approach in patients experiencing increased intracranial pressure and described the results based on nursing care. Results : Based on the interventions implemented, specifically the administration of a 30-degree head-up position, in both patients who underwent post-craniotomy surgery and presented with the nursing issue of ineffective cerebral perfusion, the evaluation revealed an improvement in cerebral perfusion, manifested by an increase in levels of consciousness. Suggestion : The implementation of a 30-degree head-up position exhibited an enhanced cerebral perfusion, characterized by a decrease in indicators of elevated intracranial pressure.
