Abstract

Exclusive breastfeeding is giving breastfeed with no other food and additional drinks in infants aged zero to six months. Factors affecting the success of exclusive breastfeeding was namely Family Support. Family support is the external factor that most influence on the success of Exclusive Breastfeeding. Family support is comprised of Instrumental support, Informational support, emotional support, and support for Self-Esteem. This support will have an impact on increasing the confidence or motivation of the mother who determines the exclusive breastfeeding for 6 months. This study aims to determine the relationship of the family support in exclusive breastfeeding in Puskesmas Sukarame Palembang in 2015. This type of research is analytic survey with cross sectional approach. The sampling was based on purposive sampling technique. The respondents or sample of the research were mothers who have babies> 6-12 months who come to Posyandu Puskesmas Sukarame Palembang. The sample in this study was in total of 74 respondents. The statistical test used was chi square test. The results obtained value (p value: 0.629), this shows that there is no significant relationship between family support for exclusive breastfeeding in Puskesmas Sukarame Palembang in 2015. In increasing exclusive breastfeeding in Puskesmas Sukarame Palembang, the researcher suggests the nurse from the health center to conduct counseling on family support to mothers who give Exclusive Breastfeeding, provide training to the cadres of Posyandu, and present in every Posyandu activities.
