Abstract

Background: Families have an important role in health efforts, especially in the elderly. Families who have elderly people with hypertension need to be treated properly and correctly for the elderly, if the family does not know the care properly it can have an impact such as stroke, heart failure and even death. Aim: To determine the description of family knowledge in treating elderly people with hypertensive disorders in the Palembang Sukarami Village. Method: This type of quantitative research using descriptive survey design, obtained a sample of 50 respondents using total sampling. Results: The results of this study show that the majority of respondents had secondary education as many as 26 (52%), the work of respondents most did not working as housewife were 34 respondents (68%), the age of the respondents majority 30-39 years as many as 25 respondents (50%),femalegender as many as 43 respondents (86%),and family knowledge in treating elderly people with hypertension disorders who had the most good knowledge as many as 36 respondents (72%). Suggestion: increase family knowledge as information and motivation to always treat elderly people with hypertension properly.
