Abstract
Background: Fibroadenoma mammae (FAM) is a breast tumor that often occurs in adolescents and women under the age of 30 years. The presence of breast tumors can be detected through BSE. Factors that influence BSE behavior are knowledge and exposure to information media. Individuals begin to try BSE behavior when they know and are interested in stimuli (objects), besides that exposure to information media can change individual attitudes through impressions and writings on information media and move individuals to behave. Aim: This study aims to determine the relationship between the level of knowledge and exposure to information media with BSE behavior in an effort to early detection of breast tumors in students at Palembang State High School 18. Method: This study uses an analytical survey research design with a cross sectional approach. The population in this study were all students of class XI IPS at Palembang State High School 18. The sampling technique is total sampling with a sample of 65 respondents. Data processing uses the Kendall Tau and Chi Square statistical test with a significance limit of α <0.05. Results: The results showed that the majority of the level of knowledge of good students was 33 respondents (50.8%), exposure to information media as many as 46 respondents (70.8%), and not doing BSE as many as 34 respondents (52.3%). Based on the Kendal Tau test analysis there is a significant relationship between the level of knowledge and BSE behavior with p value 0.001. Based on Chi Square test analysis there is a significant relationship between exposure to information media and BSE behavior with p value 0.001. Suggestion: Suggestions in this study provide more information about the importance of doing BSE as an effort to early detection of breast tumors to students in Palembang State High School 18.
