Abstract

Background : Edema is an excessive accumulation of fluid between the cells of body tissues. In patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis, the kidneys are unable to excrete metabolic waste products and toxins from the body, which leads to the development of edema. One of the non-pharmacological interventions that can be provided to patients is a combination therapy of Ankle Pump Exercise and 30° leg elevation to reduce the degree of edema.. Objective : Determining the Effect of Combination of Ankle Pump Exercises and 30° Leg Elevation on the Degree of Edema in Hemodialysis patients in Palembang Methods : This was a quantitative study using a pre-experimental design with a one-shot case study approach, in which therapy was administered and the results were observed. The sample consisted of 3 respondents, and the intervention was administered over 3 days. The degree of edema was measured using the pitting edema test. Result : After 3 days of treatment, there was a reduction in edema severity from Grade III to Grade I. The edema assessment results for Mr. Z showed Grade II with a depth of 3 mm and a duration of 10 seconds; Mr. G showed Grade I with a depth of 2 mm and a duration of 3 seconds; and Mr. D showed Grade II with a depth of 3 mm and a duration of 10 seconds. The majority of respondents had been undergoing hemodialysis for more than 24 months: Mr. Z had been undergoing hemodialysis for 3 years, Mr. G had been undergoing hemodialysis for 3 years, and Mr. D had been undergoing hemodialysis for 1 year. Conclusion : This therapy can have a positive impact on patients with chronic kidney failure who experience edema. Suggestion: Respondents are expected to perform ankle pump exercises and elevate their legs to 30° to reduce edema
