Abstract

Background: Uric acid levels that exceed the normal range can cause various clinical manifestations, such as joint pain and stiffness, tingling sensations, as well as swelling and erythema due to the inflammatory process. Patients may also experience prolonged fatigue, general discomfort, urinary disturbances, and in some cases, acute attacks may be accompanied by an increase in body temperature or fever. Ginger warm compress therapy is a traditional treatment or alternative therapy that combines a warm compress with ginger to help reduce pain. Objective: Implementing evidence-based nursing interventions for older adults experiencing joint pain caused by gout. Methods: This study employed a case study design involving a ginger compress intervention administered through a nursing care approach. The study included three respondents, with the intervention carried out once daily for three days—from June 20, 2026, to June 22, 2026—at Bhayangkara Mohammad Hasan Hospital in Palembang City, South Sumatra. Result: After the implementation of the evidence-based practice (EBP) ginger compress intervention for three days, the Nursing Diagnoses of Acute Pain, Impaired Comfort, and Knowledge Deficit were successfully resolved at Bhayangkara Moh. Hasan Hospital. Suggestion: The application of this EBP is expected to become a science and add information about the application of ginger compresses to reduce joint pain due to gout in the elderly.
