Abstract
Background: Asthma is a chronic inflammation of the airways and bronchial hyperresponsiveness that produces classic symptoms such as shortness of breath, coughing, wheezing, and increased respiratory rate. This condition often causes increased work of the respiratory muscles, discomfort, and disruption of patient activity and quality of life. One nursing intervention that can be applied is diaphragmatic breathing relaxation, which aims to increase respiratory muscle relaxation, improve breathing patterns, and respiratory rate. Objective: To analyze the application of non-pharmacological diaphragmatic breathing relaxation therapy to increase respiratory muscle relaxation in asthma patients. Method: The design used in this scientific paper is a case study using diaphragmatic breathing therapy. The number of respondents was 3 people, and the intervention was carried out for 3 days. Results: The results of applying diaphragmatic breathing relaxation showed that each respondent experienced changes in breathing frequency before the application, including tachypnea, and after the application, the breathing frequency was normal in all 3 respondents. Conclusion: There was a change in breathing frequency before and after performing diaphragmatic breathing relaxation, which increased respiratory muscle relaxation. Suggestion: Diaphragmatic breathing relaxation is one way to control or stabilize breathing frequency and increase respiratory muscle relaxation that can be applied by nurses.
