Abstract
Burnout and work stress are two psychological factors commonly experienced by nurses and can affect their performance in providing nursing care. This study aimed to determine the relationship between burnout and work stress with the performance of implementing nurses in the inpatient ward of a private hospital in Palembang. This study used a quantitative method with a descriptive correlational approach. The study population was all nurses working in the inpatient ward, with simple random sampling technique, where samples were drawn randomly from the population. Data were collected using validated and reliable questionnaires measuring burnout, work stress, and nurse performance. Data analysis was conducted using Pearson correlation and multiple regression tests with a significance level of 0.05. The results showed that burnout and work stress simultaneously had a significant relationship with nurse performance(Fcount = 1797.892; p = 0.000). Partially, burnout had a moderate and significant relationship with nurse performance (r = 0.587; p = 0.000), while work stress had a very strong and significant relationship with nurse performance (r = 0.982; p = 0.000). These findings indicate that the higher the level of burnout and work stress, the lower the nurse’s performance, with work stress being the more dominant factor. In conclusion, burnout and work stress significantly influence the performance of implementing nurses. Therefore, managing work stress and burnout should be carried out holistically through workload regulation, social support, and stress management programs to maintain optimal nurse performance.
