Abstract
Background : the results of glucose levels examination are highly dependent on the pre-analytical stage, one of which is the delay in serum separation after centrifugation. Delays can cause blood cells to be damaged due to contamination by microorganisms that trigger the acceleration of the glycolysis process so that it can affect the results of blood glucose examinations. Objective : To determine the difference in blood glucose levels with immediate serum separation time and 85 minutes after centrifugation. Methods : This type of research is pre-experimental research with an inter-group comparison research design. This research was conducted at the Palembang Public Health Laboratory Center. The research subjects used were 38 students who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Results : Based on the examination results, the average blood glucose level in the serum immediately separated after centrifugation was 87.347 mg/dL, and the average blood glucose level in the serum separated 85 minutes after centrifugation was 88.143 mg/dL. Conclusion : There was a significant difference in serum blood glucose levels immediately separated after centrifugation and serum blood glucose levels separated 85 minutes after centrifugation, p = 0.017 (<0.05). Suggestion : further research is recommended to conduct fasting blood glucose examination using NaF tubes.
