Abstract
Background: Smoking can disrupt the respiratory tract and decrease Peak Expiratory Flow (PEF), which is the maximum airflow rate achieved after a deep inhalation. One therapy to improve PEF is deep breathing exercise, which aims to improve breathing patterns. Objective: To analyze the implementation of nursing care through deep breathing exercise therapy to improve peak expiratory flow in active smokers Methods: The design used in this scientific paper is a case study employing deep breathing exercise therapy. The number of respondents was 4 individuals, and the intervention was carried out over 6 days (morning and evening sessions) Result: The results of the application of deep breathing exercises showed that each respondent experienced an increase in APE values before and after deep breathing exercises were carried out every day. Conclusion: There is a difference in peak expiratory flow values before and after performing deep breathing exercises Suggestion: It is expected that this information can help active smokers understand the benefits of deep breathing exercises for improving PEF and encourage them to make it a regular self-care practice Key Words : deep breathing exercise, PEF, smoking
