Abstract

Parental divorce is an event that significantly impacts a child's psychological development, particularly during the transition from adolescence to adulthood. This impact can trigger various negative emotions such as prolonged sadness, anger, and guilt. One effort that can be made to cope with these psychological effects is through the process of forgiveness. This study aims to explore the dynamics of forgiveness in children who are victims of parental divorce. A qualitative approach with a phenomenological method was used in this research. The research subjects consisted of three individuals under the age of 25 who had experienced parental divorce and were domiciled in Palembang. Data collection was conducted through semi-structured interviews and analyzed using Interpretative Phenomenological Analysis (IPA). The results show variations in the dynamics of forgiveness among the three subjects. Only one subject was able to reduce avoidance motivation and revenge motivation, while also increasing benevolence motivation. The other two subjects still exhibited obstacles in achieving complete forgiveness.
