Abstract

Background: major surgery can affect one the body’s organs and cause complications (deformity and change in body shape), and has great risk, causing excessive anxiety and fear. The intervention that can be done to reduce anxiety are Benson relaxation and five finger hypnosis. Objektive: to determine the difference in the effectiveness of Benson relaxation and five finger hypnosis on anxiety in pre major surgical patient in the adult surgical inpatient room. Method: The method applied in this research is quantitative research using a quasy experimental design. The sampling technique used in this research uses a non probability sampling technique, namely purposive sampling. In this study, The Amsterdam Preoverative Anxiety and Information Scale (APAIS) questionnaire was used. The statistical tests used were the wilcoxon test and the Mann- Whitney U test with a sample size of 60 respondents. Results: the research results show that the p-value is 0,141>0,05, so it can be concluded that Ha is rejected and H0 is accepted. In other word, thee is no difference in effetiveness between Benson relaxation and five finger hypnosis Suggestion: Based on the research result, the suggestion for respondents is that they are expected to apply non- pharmacological interventions with Benson relaxation or five- finger hypnosis to overcome pre operative patient anxiety, especially major surgical operations.
