Abstract

Health education or health education about hand hygiene is very important in patients because it is the first element that can spread nosocomial infections to other patients, health workers, visitors, and other health facilities5. Most infections occur due to bacteria originating from patients themselves. Hand hygiene in patients is underutilized to prevent nosocomial infections6. Patients can spread the transmission of microorganisms and are capable of causing nosocomial infections. From the preliminary survey of hand hygiene habits in hospital patients is still very low, as many as 60% of patients never do hand hygiene. Failure to do good and proper hand hygiene is the main cause of nosocomial infection. Besides, the knowledge and attitude of hand hygiene of patients is still not good, so it is necessary for hand hygiene health education in patients being treated because the patient is the first element that can spread nosocomial infection. This study aims to determine the relationship of health education using leaflets with knowledge and attitude of hand hygine patients in Yoseph I Hospital Pavilion. RK. Charitas Palembang. The research used pre-experiment research method with one group pretest posstest design. The sample was 44 respondents with total sampling technique. The statistical test used is Kendall Tau test with result obtained there is correlation between health education using leaflet with knowledge and attitude of hand hygiene of patient before and after given health education with p-value 0,001 <0,05. The results of this study is expected that the role of nurses as educators is increasing in providing education or health education hand hygiene so that patients increasingly understand the importance of hand hygiene in the prevention of nosocomial infections in health services.
