Abstract

Background : In examining uric acid levels in the blood, one of the examination materials used is serum. To obtain blood serum can be done in two ways, namely centrifuged and without centrifugation (precipitated). Serum without centrifugation can be used as another effort when there are constraints on facilities and infrastructure in a laboratory so that uric acid examination can be carried out. Objective : Knowing the difference in uric acid levels using Chemistry Analyzer in centrifuged and uncentrifuged serum. Results : This research is observational analytic with research design Cross Sectional. The research was conducted in the laboratory of the Palembang Public Health Laboratory Center (BBLKM). The research subjects used amounted to 38 students. Sampling was done using total sampling. Data analysis using Paired T�Test test with 95% confidence level. Conclusion : The average uric acid level in centrifuged serum is 5.30 mg/dL, the average uric acid level in serum without centrifugation is 5.38 mg/dL. Uric acid levels in centrifuged serum were not significantly different from uric acid levels in uncentrifuged serum, p = 0.106 (p>0.05) for the population with subjects aged between 18 - 22 years. Suggestion : It is recommended that uric acid examination research can use serum without centrifugation as an alternative if there is no centrifugation equipment in a laboratory, use different age variations or sick populations and use more research subjects.
