Abstract

Economic activities cannot be separated from the center of commercial activity called the market. Palembang's economic development is closely tied to its history as a port city because it is supported by the Musi River as a trade route. One of the markets is Sekanak Market. Sekanak market is one of the oldest markets in the city of Palembang. However, as time progressed, Sekanak Market experienced a setback and market conditions were very worrying. One of the factors is that the market is no longer passed by public transport, inadequate market infrastructure such as dark market stall space, many spaces that are less efficient have resulted in the condition of Sekanak Market being empty of buyers and neglected as well as the development of more and more modern markets. Therefore, it is necessary to make efforts to revitalize Sekanak Market by recreating the atmosphere of the past to improve the quality of Sekanak Market along with the Lambidaro Preen Sekanak River project. The theme in the design of the Revitalization of the Sekanak Market in Palembang is Cultures in Harmony, namely an effort to recreate the atmosphere of the past by combining many cultures in the Sekanak area and harmonizing with the existing surrounding environment through a Contextual Architecture approach, carrying the concept of a combination of building styles that are unique to the area. Sekanak is a Malay�Arabic, Chinese and Colonial architectural style.
