Abstract

Background :According to Clinical and Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI), apply duration of the tourniquet on the process of to take venous blood shouldn’t be more than 1 minute. If a tourniquet using more than 1 minute can effect to hemoconcentration. From some research , explain to the different time of using to take blood process, some statement found have difference and some statement found not difference. This research to know of the total calcium level in the serum taken with a tourniquet untill to 1 minute and 3 minutes using an autoanlyzer. Method : This type of study is a pre-experiment with a static group comparison. The subjects in this study were 35 students of DIV Medical Laboratory Technology Analysts who were obtained by accidental sampling and reseach subject who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Subjects received two different treatments, the subject was taken blood with a tourniquet untill to 1 minute and the subject was taken blood with a tourniquet untill to 3 minutes, then measured levels total calcium in serum using the Arsenazo III method. Data were analyzed using paired t test with a confidence level of 95%. Result: The avarage Total Calsium levels in serum with a tourniquet untill to 1 minute as much 9.40 mg / dL, and average total calcium level in serum with a tourniquet untill to 3 minutes as much 9.55 mg / dL. The results were tested statistically showed no significant difference (p = 0.110) between levels Total Calcium in serum taken with a tourniquet untill to 1 minute and 3 minutes. Conclusion: Total Calcium levels in serum taken with a tourniquet untill to 1 minute were not difference from total calcium levels in serum with a tourniquet untill to 3 minute with values (sig 2 tailed) of 0.110 > 0.05
