Abstract

Background: Tuberculosis is a chronic infectious disease caused by the bacterium Mycobacterium tuberculosis. Microscopic examination of sputum a role in early diagnosis and monitoring of pulmonary tuberculosis treatment. The Gene Xpert MTB/RIF examination is a molecular examination with Nucleic Acid Amplification Technology (NAAT) technology that can diagnose pulmonary TB and rifampin resistance within 2 hours and can be performed even if the sputum sample is only 1 ml. Objective: This study aims to determine whether there are differences in the result of the microscopic examination of acid-fast bacilli with the molecular rapid test/GeneXpert on sputum of suspected pulmonary TB.Methods: This research method is observational analytic with a cross-sectional approach. The sample of this study was sputum from patients with suspected pulmonary TB. The research subject used was sputum from patients with suspected pulmonary tuberculosis. Sputum samples with inclusion and exclusion criteria were examined microscopically and then examined for TCM/GeneXpert. The results were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test with 95% confidence and a 5% error rate (0,05).Result: The result of the examination from 42 research samples obtained 32 samples with microscopic results and TCM/GeneXpert results with the same results. The results of the TCM/GeneXpert examination obtained the same median and minimum value, which is Negative and the maximum result is different. On microscopic examination, the maximum value is 2+ while the results of the TCM/GeneXpert examination the maximum value is MTB Detected High. Conclusion: The test results obtained that there is no difference in the results of the microscopic examination with the results of the TCM/GeneXpert examination.Suggestion: Microscopic examination of sputum by centrifugation treatment and compared with the results of TCM/GeneXpert for better results.
