Abstract
Background: Diabetes mellitus (DM) is a chronic metabolic disease characterized by elevated blood glucose levels, which over time cause serious damage to the heart, blood vessels, eyes, kidneys, and nerves. The International Organization for Diabetes Federation (IDF) estimates that there are at least 463 million people aged 20 to 79 years in the world suffering from diabetes in 2019 or equivalent to a prevalence rate of 9.3% of the total population at the same age. There are 5 pillars of care for diabetes, including self-care diet, self-care for physical activity, self-care for blood sugar monitors, self-care for taking medication and self-care for foot care. Objective: This study aims to determine self-care "in diabetes in the Plaju Health Center Work Area". Methods: This research method is quantitative with a descriptive survey approach. The population is 105 respondents, and the sample is 35 respondents. The analysis used is a univariate instrument used is a Summary of Diabetes self care activities (SDSCA) modified by researchers. Results: The results of this study showed that the average age of the respondents was 46 years, the gender of the was male with a total of 20 (57,1%) respondents, the majority of the education was Senior High School (SMA) with a total of 14 (40,0%) respondents, while 5 indicators that had a level of self-care, namely self-care diet, were the majority. moderate 21 respondents (60.0%), physical activity self care low majority 21 respondents (60.0%), self care monitoring blood sugar low majority 23 respondents (65.8%), self care taking medication moderate majority 23 respondents ( 65,7%), and the majority of self care foot care were 15 respondents (42,9%). Suggestion: The results of this study describe diabetes self care so that it can be used for planning further interventions for Plaju Public Health Centers.
