Abstract
The purpose of NPRC storage is to maintain the viability and function of erythrocytes by reducing the metabolic activity of cells. In vitro blood storage was added as anticoagulant Citrate Phosphate Dextrose Adenine (CPDA) and the hemoglobin level in PRC blood components was at least 45 g/Unit. During storage, metabolic changes occur in erythrocytes and plasma or are called storage lesions. The elements of storage lesions include morphological changes, slowed metabolism with decreased levels of Adenosine Tri Phosphate (ATP), loss of cation pump function. This poses a risk to the safety and efficacy of prolonged storage of PRCs, reducing their oxygen-carrying and releasing capacity. The United States recommends a 1% limit for the shemolysis index at the end of PRC storage.
