Abstract
Background: Examination of the platelet count in the laboratory does not always use venous blood because it fails in the collection process. Failure is caused by thin veins, fragile veins, the patient is too fat so that the vein is not palpable and the patient is in an emergency so capillary blood is taken as an alternative for examination. Objective: To determine the difference in the number of platelets in venous blood and capillary blood using K3EDTA anticoagulant on a hematology analyzer. Methods: This type of research is descriptive-analytic. Examination using Sysmex KX-21 with Blood Cell Counter method. The research was conducted at the Palembang Health Laboratory Center. The subjects of this study were students of level 2 and 4 Fikes UKMC who were taken using the Total Sampling technique. Normality test using Shapiro-Wilk and hypothesis testing using Independent Sample T Test. Results: Examination of the platelet count using venous blood obtained an average result of 335.5 x 10³/μL and examination of the platelet count using capillary blood obtained an average result of 296.1 x 10³/μL. The test results showed a difference, where the number of platelets in the capillary blood was lower than that of the venous blood and statistically showed a significant difference in the number of platelets with a value of =0.01 (<0.05). Conclusion: There are differences in the number of platelets in venous blood and capillary blood. Suggestion: In future studies, all routine blood parameters are used with samples of venous blood and capillary blood. Keywords: Platelets, Venous Blood, Capillary Blood, K3EDTA
