Abstract
Background : one of the hematologycal examinations is the examination of platelet levels. So far, pre-analytic errors can account for up to 70% of all errors in laboratory diagnostics, which mostly arise from patient preparation, sample collection, transportation and preparation for analysis and storage. Delays is examinations usually occur due to shifts changes, equipment failure or errors during use, long sample deliveries, labor limitations, too many patients and when the electricity goes out. As a result of this, the examination is sometimes delayed and not immediately checked so that it can affect the results of the platelet count examination. Objective: Knowing the number of platelets in the blood is immediately checked and delayed for 1 hour at room temperature Methods: This research uses analytical observasional with cross sectional approach. The research subjects used were 32 students of DIV Medical Laboratory Technology level II and IV totaling 32 people. Blood samples were collected in EDTA tubes for each subject using the impedance method with the Sysmex KX-21 device. Results :The number of platelets in the blood immediately examined had a mean value of 282.3 x 10³/µL, while the number of platelets delayed for 1 hour had a mean value of 279.3 x 10³/µL. The data obtained were tested for normality and the results obtained were 0.556 > 0.05 and 0.634 > 0.05, which indicated that the data were normally distributed. The tested using the paired T-Test and the results obtained 0.203 > 0.05 which means there is no significant difference in the number of platelets in the blood immediately checked and postponed 1 hour. Conclusion:There is no difference in the number of platelets in the blood immediately checked and delayed for 1 hour. Suggestion : Research on other analytes such as erythrocytes was carried out regarding the delay in examination Keywords :platelet, checked immediately, postponed one hour, room temperature
