Abstract

The title of this research is “Exploring the Relationship between Vocabulary Mastery and Students’ Speaking Fluency of Tenth Grade in High School Level”. Vocabulary mastery is one of the important language aspects in English. The main objective of this research was to investigate whether there was a correlation or not between vocabulary mastery and speaking fluency of tenth graders in high school level in Palembang. In addition, this research was also aimed to identify the students’ opinions related to the importance of vocabulary mastery and to ensure that quantity of students’ vocabulary mastery will influence their speaking fluency. The researcher used correlational design with quantitative method in conducting this research. There were two instruments that researcher use to collect the data which are test and questionnaire. The instruments were vocabulary test that consist of 50 questions in the form of multiple choices, speaking test, and questionnaire consists of 17 items. The data were analyzed by Pearson Product Moment. In this research, there were 58 tenth grade students involved as samples selected by using purposive sampling technique.
