Abstract
Background: A hypertension emergency is a blood pressure condition that is more than 180/120 mmHg and this emergency can cause complications such as stroke, heart failure, vision loss, and heart attack. Emergency events can be experienced 1-2% in patients with hypertension. To prevent hypertension emergencies, it is necessary to comply with hypertension management, a person's compliance is influenced by his self-efficacy, the better the hypertension management. Self-efficacy can be obtained through education about the emergency condition of hypertension where the education carried out can motivate in improving blood pressure control. Objective: To determine the difference in self-efficacy before and after emergency hypertension education in patients with hypertension. Methods: The research method uses a pre-experimental method with one group pretest posttest design. Sampling using purposive sampling technique obtained 74 respondents. The instrument used was a self-efficacy manage to hypertension questionnaire. Intervention was carried out by providing education on emergency hypertension through leaflets. Data analysis used the Wilcoxon sign rank test. Results: The majority of the results showed that the initial age of the elderly was 44 respondents (59.5%), female gender was 56 respondents (75.7%), high school education level was 29 respondents (39.2%), the duration of suffering was new (1- 5 years) 34 respondents (45.9%), blood pressure stage 2 hypertension was 41 respondents (55.4%), before self-efficacy education was sufficient 46 respondents (62.2%), after good self-efficacy education 54 respondents ( 73%). The results of the Wilcoxon test showed that there was a difference before and after emergency education in patients with hypertension with a p value of 0.00 <0.05. Suggestion: Patients with hypertension can find out more about the emergency of hypertension so that they can increase their self-efficacy. Keywords: Education, Hypertension Emergency, Self-efficacy.
