Abstract

ABSTRACT Reading is one of basic and receptive skills. However, students sometimes have difficulty in reading, it generally relates to their comprehension in reading. Students need to understand the text well by integrating their background knowledge with the material discussed. Then they can get the meaning of the text. The goal of this study was to enhance student’s reading achievement by using a medium, namely audio book. Audio book facilitated students not only to learn reading but also pronunciation, phrases, and vocabularies. Tenth graders of a private senior high school in Palembang involved as participants of this study and selected by using convenience sampling technique. There were sixteen meetings, two meetings for pretest and posttest and fourteen meetings for intervention. Reading test and interview were used to collect the data in this study. The data were analyzed by using paired t-test. Keywords: Audio book, literature reading, reading achievement.
