Abstract

The role of lighting in design is important for anything, activity, working, cooking, and else. The implication of lighting in everyday life are enormous, like for example how the bulb installed, what kind of bulb that installed. This thing will become a problem in the future if no one realized it and overcome it. Lighting design requires an understanding of user activities in the room. Therefore, the research was carried out in the reference room of the Musi Charitas Catholic University library.This research was conducted to find out and understand whether the lighting in the room has met the standards based on the Indonesian National Standard. So this research can be as a study material or as a advice for the person in charge of the university library. The method used in this study uses a direct survey with a lux meter and application such as Ecotect Analysis and Ecotect Radiance. Based on the Indonesian National Standard 03-6575-2001, the library room requires an illumination level of 300 lux, while the reference room of the library at the Musi Charitas Catholic University is only around 117 lux based on direct measurements and 171.8 lux based on the simulation results of Ecotect Analysis. The reference library of Musi Charitas Catholic Universicy still does not meet the standards that have been determined based on the Indonesian National Standard. Keywords:lighting, library, Ecotect
