Abstract
ABSTRACT Vocabulary mastery is an essential need for young learners to acquire second language. Diary writing is a medium to introduce new vocabularies for young learners. The purpose of this research is to investigate the use of diary writing to enhance the fourth grader’s vocabulary mastery at an elementary school in Palembang. 25 EFL students participated in this research. This research was conducted from January to March 2019 at that school. This research was a preexperimental design with the quantitative data obtained in form of pre-test and post-test. The quantitative data were analyzed by using SPSS 22 Software Program. The supportive data were teacher and students’ interview. The results of this research showed the scores’ improvement on the post-test. Moreover, the researcher also found out that lack of idea and words became the students’ problem during the implementation. Keywords: Diary writing, Vocabulary mastery, English for young learners
