Abstract

Background: Exclusive breastfeeding is the best nutrition for infants during the first six months of life for healthy growth and development. However, the prevalence of exclusive breastfeeding is very low in many developing countries including Indonesia. Breastfeeding is an important public health strategy for improving child and maternal health conditions. The success or failure of breastfeeding a large part dependent on the availability of help and support. In the course of a study of Dewey stated that psychological factors may affect milk production. Objective: This study was conducted to determine the relationship of husband’s support towards the success of exclusive breastfeeding. Materials and Methods: This study is conducted in Talangjambe village, Sukarami. The sample used are 71 mothers with infants aged 7-12 months, who has been through a period of exclusive breastfeedings. The sampling method used in this study is accidental sampling method. This study is a quantitative research with cross sectional approach. In this study, questionnaire research instruments are used as collecting data method. Analytical techniques are univariate analysis, bivariate analysis (chi square test and Fisher test) Results: As many as 55% mothers of high school educated are 84.6% giving exclusive breastfeeding. The statistical test showed: there was a significant correlation between mother education with exclusive breastfeeding (p = 0,05) The results of this study showed that mothers got good support were 92,6%, and also mothers to provide exclusive breastfeeding were 70,4% . Statistical test results showed that there was relationship between the husband's support towards exclusive breastfeeding (p= 0,017). Conclusion: The results of the Chi Square test was significant relationship between the level of maternal education with success exclusive breastfeeding (p=0,05). There is a relationship between husband support with mother’s will for giving exclusively breastfeeding] (p=0,017).
