Abstract

The issue of security and confidentiality of data and information is an important thing. One way to maintain security and confidentiality of data and information is with the encryption and decryption techniques or also known as cryptography. Cryptography is the science and art to maintain the security of a message by turning it into a form that can not be recognized anymore. One of the cryptographic algorithms are commonly used today is the Rijndael or also known as AES (Advanced Encryption Standard). Cryptography can be applied to various types of files, one of which is a digital image. The software to be built is software encryption and decryption with Rijndael algorithm for digital images. This software will be built by using the Waterfall method. The results of the development of this software has been able to implement the Rijndael cryptographic algorithm to maintain the security and confidentiality of digital image with a bitmap image file format.
