Abstract

The title of this study is “Investigating the Link between Students’ Grammar Competence and Speaking Fluency: A Correlational Research in Senior High School Level”. The grammar competence and speaking fluency of the students at the research field are low. Therefore, the aims of this quantitative research were to investigate whether there was a correlation between students’ grammar competence and speaking fluency and to find out their perceptions towards the variables. The population of this research were one hundred and two of eleventh grade students of a Private Senior High School in Palembang. Fifty-two students were participated as the samples which selected by using purposive sampling technique. For collecting the data, test and questionnaire were used. The data were analyzed by using Pearson Product Moment and Simple Percentage Analysis. The results of the data showed that there was a significant correlation between grammar competence and speaking fluency in senior high school level. In line with it, students’ perceptions toward the correlation between the variables were also positive. The students believed that grammar competence and speaking fluency were interrelated.
