Abstract

Background: Hypertension is defined as a condition of increasing a person's blood pressure above normal with a systolic pressure of more than 130 mmHg or a diastolic blood pressure of more than 80 mmHg. Prevention of hypertension complications can be started from the patient himself, namely by knowing how to treat and control the disease. Education is an effort to provide knowledge so that there is an increase in positive behavior changes. Audiovisuals make a very big contribution in changing people's knowledge, especially in the information aspect. Objective: This study aims to determine the difference in knowledge about the management of hypertension before and after being given education using video for hypertension patients at the Palembang City Health Center. Methods: This research is a quantitative research using a pre-experimental method with a one group pre-posttest design which was conducted on 33 hypertensive patients at the Palembang Social Health Center. The sampling technique was total sampling and the instrument used was a validated knowledge questionnaire about hypertension management. Data analysis using Wilcoxon test statistics. Results: The results obtained with the most characteristics of the age group are 52 years (18.2%), the most gender are women (72.7%), the most education are SMA (45.5%), the most occupations are housewives (54.5% ). Knowledge before being given education had sufficient knowledge (9.1%) and good knowledge (90.9%), knowledge after being given education resulted that all respondents had good knowledge (100%). Wilcoxon test results obtained p value (0.001) <α (0.05) so it can be concluded that Ha is accepted, which means that there is a difference in knowledge about hypertension management before and after being given education using video. Suggestion: Respondents can be involved in discussions as additional information and can perform simulations related to hypertension management, especially in carrying out physical activities such as swimming to lower blood pressure and prevent aggravating hypertension Keywords : Knowledge, Management of Hypertension, Videos
