Abstract
Background :Lead in the blood causes disturbances in the human body, because it is very toxic, among others, causes mutations, and is carcinogenic, also decomposes for a very long time and its toxicity does not change. The entry of lead into the body can be through the skin and then into the blood tissue. Blood exposed to lead, especially leukocytes, can cause changes in the structure of monocytes and can increase neutrophils so that it can increase the number of leukocytes. The research sample is the blood of the people who live on the coast of the Musi River, which mostly uses river water. In 2016 Pb in the Musi River was < 2.821 mg/l. In 2020 the water lead level in the Musi River is 0.137 mg/l. Objective: To determine the relationship between blood lead levels and the number of leukocytes in Kapitan Village, Palembang City. Methods: The type of this research is an analytic survey conducted on 17 women, according to the inclusion and exclusion criteria. Taking 6cc of blood into the EDTA tube. The research design is cross sectional Results: The number of respondents was 17 people with an average lead level of 55.07 g/L within normal limits and an average leukocyte count of 7935/µL within normal limits. The results of the Pearson correlation test with a significant value of 0.804 > 0.05 which indicates there is no relationship between blood lead levels and the number of leukocytes. Conclusion: From the results of the study it was concluded that there was no relationship between blood lead levels and the number of leukocytes Suggestion: For further researchers can change the method of this examination Keywords: Lead, Leukocytes, Musi River
