Abstract

Background: DM is a disease because glucose levels are more than 200 mg/dl. DM management includes pharmacology using modern medicine and non-pharmacology using traditional medicine, namely bay leaves, cinnamon, bitter melon and brotowali. One of the factors that influence the use of herbs is the knowledge of DM patients, not many know about the use of DM herbs. Objective: To determine the knowledge of DM patients in the use of herbs at the Talang Betutu Health Center. Methods: This type of research is quantitative, the analysis uses a frequency distribution descriptive test, population 77 respondents, a sample of 38 respondents, taken by accidental sampling technique. Results: the characteristics of most respondents aged 60-70 31 (81.6%) respondents, female sex 30 respondents (78.9%, junior high school education 22 respondents (57.9). The results of the univariate test on knowledge of herbal use: less than 34 respondents (89.5%), only 1 (2.6%) respondents, good 3 respondents (7.9%). Knowledge of the highest utilization of herbs, bay leaves is less than 3 respondents (7.9%), less cinnamon is 32 respondents (60.5%), bitter melon is less than 23 respondents 60.5%, brotowali is less than 28 respondents (73.6%). Suggestion: Based on the recommendations from research for DM patients to get information and be able to apply the use of herbs properly and so that DM sufferers can live better with the application of herbs.
