Abstract

Background: Stress is an emotional condition disorder that can be experienced by anyone regardless of age or gender. The aging process can cause various problems both physically, biologically, socio-economically and mentally. Changes that occur in individuals who enter the elderly cause emotional mental problems which if not addressed immediately will endanger their physical and mental conditions. Aim: To know the description of the stress level of the elderly at Harapan Kita Social Institution in Palembang. Methods: This study uses a quantitative research design that is a descriptive survey with the research instrument in the form of a questionnaire with the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS). Results: The distribution of the stress level of the elderly at the Harapan Kita Social Home for the Elderly in Palembang, namely the low stress level was 50 respondents (92.6%), then the elderly with moderate stress level were 4 respondents (7.4%). The description of the stress level of the elderly at the Harapan Kita Elderly Social Institution, Palembang, most of them experience mild stress and none of them experience severe stress Suggestion: For the Harapan Kita Elderly Social Institution in Palembang, it should be able to improve spiritual services for the elderly, conduct mental health counseling programs and counseling guidance for the elderly so that they can detect early signs and symptoms of stress.
