Abstract

Background: Currently, gadgets have become one of the basic needs for every human being, including children. Meanwhile, gadgets certainly have both positive and negative influences that make the children are reluctant to socialize and build connections with others. This negative impact can be minimized or overcome if their parents (specifically their mothers) have good knowledge of the impact of using gadgets on their children’s development. Objective: This research aims to explain and describe the mothers’ knowledge level on the impact of using gadgets on the development of preschool-aged children in Sukajadi Banyuasin Village. Methods: This is quantitative research that uses a descriptive survey design. There 112 respondents as the research population. The research sample is taken using the purposive sampling technique which consists of 53 respondents. The research data are processed using a univariate analysis statistical test. Result: The research findings show the respondents’ average age is 36 to 45 years old (26 respondents or 49.1%); the respondents mostly work as housewives (47 respondents or 88.7%); most respondents completed their education at senior high school level (42 respondents or 79.25%), and the respondents’ knowledge level is generally classified as good (39 respondents or 73.6%). Suggestion: The results of this research are expected to provide and improve mothers’ knowledge on the impact of using gadgets on the development of preschool-aged children so that they should always oversee and accompany their children when they are playing with their gadgets.
