Abstract
Background: The increase of Tuberculosis cases is influenced by several factors. One of them is the less optimal medication process taken by the patient. The factor which influences the patient’s recovery is the adherence of the patients in consuming the medicines. The patients, who take medication by consuming OAT (Anti-Tuberculosis Medicine), often experience psychological fluctuation which affects the consistency of medication adherence although there are similar patients who are successful in their medication process. As the result, it is necessary to conduct a further investigation toward their experience during the medication process. Purpose: This research aims to explore and study more deeply the experience of Tuberculosis patients who adhered to the medication process. Method: This research employed the qualitative research method with the phenomenological approach. The data of this research was analyzed by using Colaizzi method (1978). The sampling technique was purposive sampling which was combined with snowball sampling. There were 3 participants and 1 key participant. Result: Based on the analysis result, there were 6 identified themes, namely The Feeling when Firstly Diagnosed Tuberculosis, The Perception toward The Medication Period, The Commitment during The Medication Period, The Support from Family, The Way Other People Treat Tuberculosis Patients, and The Psychological Condition during The Medication Period. Suggestion: Community Health Center is expected to maintain the existing programs, especially educating the new Tuberculosis patients to prevent the spread of the disease. The family is expected to maintain the support given and to prevent Tuberculosis to the family members and the survivor. The result of this research is expected to help future researchers to conduct deeper research on the life quality of Tuberculosis survivors after being declared recovered. Also, society is expected to be able to support Tuberculosis patients and to erase the existing bad stigma. Keywords: experience of tuberculosis patients, adherence to OAT medication
