Abstract

Background : Freshmen are first-year students of the university. The students will encounter various challenges during the learning process ,for instance, different learning styles in senior high school and university. The failure of adapting to the difference will cause obstacles in the learning process. Calista Roy adaptation theory that focuses on individual adaptation with the environment was used in this research. It comprised four Roy adaptation models that are used as indicators to identify individual adaptation, namely physiology, self-concept, role, and interdependence. Purpose : To investigate the portrait of freshmen adaptation towards the learning process in the pandemic era with Calista Roy adaptation theory approach Methods : This research employed a descriptive survey. The sample consisted of 44 respondents aged 17-24 years old. The sample was selected through total sampling technique. The researcher developed the research questionnaire byusing Calista Roy adaptation theory. This research was conducted in the Health Science Faculty of Musi Charitas Catholic University Palembang Result : The median of the student age was 18 years old. The number of female students was higher with 40 students (90.9%). Most of the students were from the Nursing Science study program with a total number of 18 students (40.9%). Around 37 students (84.1%) experienced adaptive adaptation. Meanwhile, 7 students (15.9%) experienced ineffective adaptation. Recommendation : The students with ineffective adaptation are expected to be more adaptive to the condition through participating in campus activities that potentially assist them in the adaptation process.
