Abstract
Introduction: : Pain is the body's response to recognizing potential physical harm or indicating tissue damage. Persistent lower back pain will make sufferers physical, psychosocial and economic stress. Low back pain can occur due to individual, occupational and environmental factors. Based on Riskesdas data in 2013, it was obtained 8.4% and in 2018 it became 22% so that in five years there was an increase of 13.6%. Objective : This study aims to determine the relationship between ergonomic posture, working period, and smoking habits toward low back pain problem of lumber laborers in Palembang. Method : This research was conducted at a timber factory in Palembang. This study used an analytic survey method with a cross sectional survey design design. The sample in this study amounted to 44 respondents using total sampling technique. Collecting data using the QEC observation sheet, NRS and a questionnaire. The statistical analysis test used was the Kendall Tau test. Results : The result of the study showed that there were 27 respondents (61.4%) required immediate posture change, 21 respondents (57.7%) had long working period, 26 respondents (59.1%) were light smokers, and 18 respondents (40.9%) suffered low back pain. Furthermore, Kendal Tau results indicated that (1) there was no significant correlation between ergonomic posture and low back pain problem with p value = 0.184, (2) there was significant correlation between working period and low back pain problem with p value = 0.001, (3) there was a significant correlation between smoking habit and low back pain problem with p value = <0.001. Conclusion : With these results, laborers are expected to notice any factors that can cause low back pain in order to reduce physical and psychological disadvantages due to workplace accidents Suggestion : It is hoped that the workers can correct the non-ergonomic position and also reduce smoking habits to reduce the impact of low back pain
