Abstract

This article discusses the design of electric motor products. Product design is done through the process of identification and translating consumer needs into a number of technical characteristics. To produce electric motor products that are environmentally friendly and in accordance with consumer expectations. The Quality Function Deployment (QFD) method is used in design designing because it can accommodate research objectives. Methodologies used are as follows: (1) identifying and determining the level (rating) of consumer needs through interviews, (2) Determining the characteristics of product techniques based on consumer preference, (3) Drafting House of Quality (HOQ) to determine the dominant design needs and characteristics of priority tool techniques. Design of detail, selection of materials and processes and the manufacture of engineering drawings is based on the needs of dominant designs. Characteristics of the tool techniques that are the priority: (1) mileage; (2) Carrying power; (3) Affordable price; (4) Battery life; (5) Speed; (6) Easy maintenance. Product design and prototype are developed based on the six characteristics of the technique. The prototype test results showed that speed, carrying power and mileage could be achieved.
