Abstract

Background : Cataract is a situation where eyes have problem with opacities in the lens of eyes themselves and can’t maintain their function progressively, so the patient who’s struggling with cataract ain’t able to see cleary due to the turbid lens and light which is hard to reach the retina. Objective : The purpose of this research is to determine the factors associated with incident of cataract at Eye Specialty Hospital of South Sumatera Province. Methods: This research is quantitative research with cross sectional design and with 82 respondents. Results : Statistical test results have found that there’s a correlation between age with incident of cataract disease at Eye Specialty Hospital of South Sumatera Province with pvalue 0,015 , and no correlation between gender with incident of cataract disease at Eye Specialty Hospital of South Sumatera province with pvalue 0,378, there’s correlation between education with incident of cataract disease at Eye Specialty Hospital of South Sumatera Province with pvalue 0,029 and between employment with incident of cataract disease at Eye Specialty Hospital of South Sumatera Province with pvalue 0,009, and there’s no correlations between income or wage with incident of cataract disease at Eye Specialty Hospital of South Sumatera Province with pvalue 0,369, and between the history of smoking with incident of cataract disease at Eye Specialty Hospital of South Sumatera province with pvalue 0,615, and then there’s no correlation between the history of diabetes mellitus with incident of cataract disease at Eye Specialty Hospital of South Sumatera Province with pvalue 0,622. suggestion: suggested to the nurse did promotive and preventive to prevent cataracts , especially in communities of his work exposed to direct sunlight and other radiation .
