Abstract

Background: Personal hygiene in children with autism require a limited role of the family. Some of family’s role namely as a motivator, consolation and family caregivers. Personal hygiene is done to maintain and health, both physiclly and mentally. Aim: The research was designed to know correlation between familly role as a motivator, consolation and family caregivers and the ability of personal hygiene in chilidren with autism at SLB Autis Harapan Mandiri Palembang. Method: This research was conducted on 2-8 mey 2016 by using analytic survey reseacrh design with cross sectional approach. In choosing the sample, used total sampling technique with 32 respondents. Result: The analysis of univariate statistical test variabel motivator role of the family as well (62,5%) respondents. Variable consolation role of the family as well is (56,3%) respondents. Variable caregiver role of family as well is (53,1%) respondents and variable ability of personal hygiene in the category capable is (56,3%) respondents. Statistic result of bivariate analysis using chi-square with the significant level 95% or ρ value ≤ 0,05. The result of study that there is no correlation batween familly role as motivator and the ability of personal hygiene in chilidren with autism (ρ value 0,098 > 0,05) there is no correlation batween familly role as consolation and the ability of personal hygiene in chilidren with autism was (ρ value 0,088 > 0,05) and therewere a significant correlation between familly role as family caregivers and the ability of personal hygiene in chilidren with autism (ρ value 0,036 ≤ 0,05). With the results of this research has been instrumental in the child’s family is good but there are still other factors that ability in autistic children is not maximized, expected family has an important role to improv personal hygiene activity in autistic children.
