Abstract

Background: Changes in muscle structure in the elderly can cause a decrease in the number and size of muscle fibers, increased connective tissue and fat tissue in the muscles, decreased muscle strength, decreased flexibility and decreased muscle functional ability. prevention of changes in muscle can be done therapeutic range of motion range of motion (ROM) Objective: to know the difference before and after ROM Methods: The method used in this study was quantitative with a Pre-Exsperiment design by observing the differences before and after the intervention was chosen not randomly, the elderly population lived in care for 7 km, a sample of 12 respondents. Results and discussion: The age of the respondents ranged from 63 years to 74 years Most of the respondents had an RPS pretest being on their fingers, wrists and shoulders, and narrow at the elbows. Whereas RPS is at all joints of the lower extremities. Most of the respondents have extensive posttest RPS in the joints of the upper and lower extremities. Most of the elderly have mild levels of activity dependence on prestest and independent measurements at posttest. A significant increase in all joints in both the upper and lower extremities (p0.01) and also at the activity level of the respondents (p = 0.034). Conclusions and suggestions: ROM is very useful for helping petrified elderly people with joint stiffness. Suggestion Active ROM exercises can be one of the programs that are routinized as rehabilitation therapy for the elderly, not only as an effort to rehabilitate mobilization and activities of the elderly but also can prevent joint stiffness, muscle weakness, can maintain balance and somatosensory reflexes.
